The last of the four Kafue Youth Football Tournaments was held on 7th and 8th of January, 2023 in Shezongo Chiefdom and was graced by His Royal Highness Chief Shezongo of the Lumbu Ila-speaking people.
The football tournament which attracted scores of people from the local community had a key focus on enabling youths and community members to enhance their sense of responsibility in safeguarding the Wildlife in and around the Wildlife protected areas. This tournament was used as a conduit for the dissemination of information on the importance of Wildlife. A total of seven football teams participated in the tournaments in which Luchena football team emerged victorious after beating Nachoongo Football team in the penalty shootouts, placing them in second position.
HRH thanked all the teams that participated in the tournament and more importantly for having exhibited the spirit of friendship and peace. "I am extremely happy to see an atmosphere of peace during these tournaments and that there is no report of disorder and fights that has been brought to my attention by the organisers of this tournament". Said the chief. "I want to thank you the organisers of this tournament. This should not be the end, but the beginning of such events which bring the youths together in my Chiefdom". Continued the chief.

The sponsor of the Kafue Youth Football Tournament Steffan Perkins expressed happiness to learn of the success of this tournament. "I’m really happy - it inspires us to keep up the good work".
Shezongo Chiefdom is one of the areas that suffers a high rate of Human-Wildlife Conflicts and conservation campaign programs in this area are so inevitable so as to continue creating a positive mindset in people that are affected by this problem.
